The Well-dressed Gardener
There's no such thing as the wrong weather: only the wrong clothing. The key to enjoying gardening is to stay comfortable whatever the weather: in our garden centre we have everything for your gardening wardrobe.
- Coats: Waxed cotton is warm without being bulky, and also waterproof, lightweight and thornproof. Choose from storm-proof full-length to practical short jackets with plenty of useful pockets.
- Waterproofs: Lightweight overtrousers are invaluable on rainy days as there's nothing more uncomfortable than a wet pair of jeans sticking to your legs. Look for fleece-lined in winter.
- Hats: wide-brimmed leather, suede or waxed cotton hats keep rain from running down your neck and getting in your eyes. Lighter canvas sun hats protect you on hot days.
- Fleeces and sweatshirts: When you're digging hard one minute and doing some fiddly pruning the next, layers of fleece, sweatshirts and warm tops are flexible and trap warm air efficiently, keeping you toasty.
- Gardening boots: A sturdy pair of lace-up waterproof gardening boots, lightweight but with ankle supports and a thick sole, are good in winter and summer. Steel toecaps protect against stray fork tines while digging.
