Plant of the Week: Primula

Plant of the Week: Primula

The primrose got its name from the Latin for ‘first’ and ‘flower’ – and no wonder, for its shy pale yellow blooms are among the first to open in the year, spangling hedgerow banks and shady corners with simple charm.

The wild primrose (Primula vulgaris) is invaluable for early pollinators and a must-have for wildlife-friendly gardeners. But that’s just one variety of dozens you can choose from, including jazzy bedding primulas in cheery pinks, reds and yellows to fill spring pots and containers with colour and drumstick primulas for waterside plantings. Drop into the garden centre and stock up to give your garden an extra-special touch of spring beauty!
